About your proofreader
Hi! I'm Amber.
I was born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah, and in 2023, I moved across the country to Maine with my dog, Billie, in tow. After unexpectedly being laid off from my corporate job of 18.5 years, I decided to pivot in an entirely new direction!
As a lifelong lover of reading with a talent for spotting errors in text, proofreading comes very naturally to me. As a teen who never missed an episode of Ally McBeal, LOVED my Law & Justice class, and is now a true crime podcast-loving adult, legal transcript proofreading is the perfect combination of my interests and skills!
I graduated from The Proofreading Business Coach's course with flying colors and have personally proofed 1000s of pages of real-life legal transcripts. You can rest assured that I have the knowledge and expertise to return a transcript you'll be happy to put your name on!
So why Arden Proofreading? The word "arden" has a few meanings. In English, it means "great forest" and comes from the Forest of Arden in the West Midlands of England. Arden may also come from the Hebrew word for the garden of Eden or "a place of great beauty and solitude." It's a little nod to my new home in Maine and the natural beauty I'm surrounded by here. I'm lucky I get to proofread with such a beautiful view!

Check My Availability
Contact me to make sure I am available to proofread for you. Let me know the type of testimony, the number of pages, and the turnaround time you need.
I'll Confirm Availability
I'll reply and confirm if I'm available to proofread for you. If you already have a preference sheet, you'll send it over to me. If not, I'll ask you to complete one before we proceed because I'll be proofing with your preferences in mind.
Send Me the Transcript
I proofread standard 25-lines-per-page PDFs that have been fully scoped. Transcripts received as PDFs allow me to make annotations directly onto the pages and lines where they apply. Larger transcripts can be sent in sections or all at once.
I'll Confirm Receipt of the Transcript
I'll let you know that I've received the transcript and will confirm the turnaround time with you. The clock starts when I confirm that I received the transcript.
Proofreading
I’ll get to work reading your transcript. While keeping your preferences in mind, I’ll look for
- Misspellings
- Incorrect words (homophones & near homophones)
- Incorrect names and dates
- Generic vs. Brand name drugs and products
- Consistent use of terminology & style
- Correct punctuation (hyphens, apostrophes, plurals)
- Missing or transposed words
- Spacing issues
- Readability
I'll contact you via email (or text message, if you prefer) if questions come up. As we continue working together, I’ll learn your writing style and will need to ask fewer questions.
Return Annotated Pages
Once I've finished proofreading your transcript, I'll return the annotated pages to you (unless otherwise requested) by the agreed-upon time. All corrections will be clearly marked.
Provide Feedback
After you receive the annotated transcript, please follow up with any questions or feedback! I value your feedback and will use it to provide an even better experience for you the next time we work together!
Send An Invoice
If this is the first time we’ve worked together, I will send you the invoice for my services after returning the annotated transcript and payment will be due within 7 days. Upon request, established clients can be billed on the 1st and 15th of each month with payment due within 10 days.
